"We are all broken...that's how the light gets in" ~ Ernest Hemingway

Over the last year Guardian Hearts has been making changes. We are dedicated to the support of our local horsemen (& women), and the local Animal Control Agents & Deputy Sheriff’s whose goal it is to intervene & protect our wonderful Hearts.  Current economic & social issues are having an enormous impact on local horse owners for the care of their Hearts. They need assistance in many cases, life is dynamic & they frequently find themselves struggling to provide & maintain their Hearts thru no fault of their own.  We have also seen as much, & many times worse, abuse/neglect/cruelty of these horses at local level than anything we saw in the killpens.

Our mission is focused on building programs to this new end. Safe Heart Assistance Rehoming Equines (S.H.A.R.E. Program), F.a.I.T.H Partners Program (FEquine Microchip ID (Hearts on Our Sleeves), Training Clinics (Maebelline Clinic), Smiling Hearts, Hearts with Dignity, and much more. We are currently working with AC in 5 counties and reaching out to our other surrounding areas to provide assistance & intervention. We are doing our best to be available & reach out to our local horse owners and let them know we’re here & they aren’t alone. Help for these horses is necessary on so many levels & we feel that this sort of support & intervention is the niche we are best suited to fill.

We remain dedicated to the recovery of horses in transition, from abuse, neglect, and the slaughter pipeline. Our goal is to empower them, and allow them to become healed, whole, and secure in homes that will see them as we do...these horses are NOT disposable, NOT valueless, NOT failures. The majority of rescue horses whether slaughter-bound, from auction, owner surrenders or Animal Control cases are healthy, sane, sound horses that have been failed. When you see ads that claim "thru no fault of their own", these are those horses, life changes, families relocate or separate or start to grow, or children grow up, people get sick, injured, or simply age, jobs change, and financial circumstances alter. There are a hundred reasons why suddenly someone can no longer keep or maintain a horse, creating neglectful situations or forcing their sale. These are such commonplace issues, but with such detrimental impact on the lives and well-being of these amazing souls.

In order to make the transition from unwanted to beloved family members, we utilize numerous tools, from letdown, to veterinarian care, farrier care, nutrition programs, professional retraining, on-site training and exercise, and more. Our rescue runs solely on volunteer power and donations, so every little bit of help from our Defenders is appreciated more than we can say.

It is our mission to see that they are defended and do not suffer by virtue of happenstance over which they are helpless victims.

Help for these horses is necessary on so many levels & we feel that this sort of support & intervention is the niche we are best suited to fill.
